Groundhog's Day

Have you ever wondered how we get early spring?  Well that's Groundhog's Day. Groundhog's Day is when a groundhog gets out of his burrow and if he doesn't see his shadow then we get early spring. But if he see's his shadow we get 6 more weeks of winter. Still it is not actually true that happens but it is fun to think about.

Have you ever herd (heard)  Shaw Star Honor Choir when you were walking past the music room? Well I have and they are AMAZING! Plus, they have perfect voices. Mrs. Berry is the one that helps do everything like play the piano. She teaches the kids to do high and low voices. They stay on tune and practice on certant (certain) days of the week. The choir performs for other people. 3rd, 4th and 5th graders can be in Shaw Star Honor Choir.  Next year are you going to be in Shaw Star Honor Choir? Well I am.

2nd grade opion writing

2nd grade  is writing a opinion  writing we are going to type them up on the computers soon. When we are done typing  they are going to be put up in the hall . We have been working on them for about a month . We have been working really hard. The type of things we are writing about is like rules and stuff. Mine is if we should start school at 10:00a.m. instead of 8:00a.m. and i picted 10:00a.m..

G.T. does Shakespeare!

This morning at Rise and Shine, our 5th grade G.T. students performed 2 scenes from Shakespeare plays.  The comedy play we watched was fun to watch. G.T. will make Shaw Elimentry fun! Next year will you go to G.T.? I mite. I know I will have fun in G.T. espisholy (especially) with Mrs. Little.

2nd grade Bodies

This week 2nd grade is learning about mucils. They are all over our body.  There are many things to know about bodies.  That is why we are making life size bodies and hanging them in the hall and in our rooms. Each week we will learn about a new body part and add it to our body.  We started last week. I bet most classes bodies look really good and neat too.

Rise and Shine

Evrey  Thursday our school has Rise and Shine. Shaw is trying to find people who are doing good team work. I hope i'm showing good team work! Students showing good team work will have their name in a drawing next week. I love Rise and Shine very much! I think Rise and Shine at Shaw help's people have good character. Plus good behavior!!

2nd Grade Ambassadors

How many people do we have for ambassadors?  There are 2 ambassadors from each class in this school. This a important job and it comes with responsibilities. They will greet visitors, work with friendship groups and give tours to new students. I think we will get new ambassadors after Christmas.

2nd Grade: Animal Classification Posters

Mrs.Cherry's class is finishing their posters about animals. Now most groups are finished. I worked on birds.  Some birds fly south for the winter.  Other groups did mammals, reptiles, & fish.We have been working on them for about a week. I think they mitght be put up in the hall.

Readers Restaurant

Welcome back Shaw stars!!How was your Memorial day weekend I know mine was awesome.  So Shaw stars, the school year is almost over. There is only a week and a half left, so keep working very hard and SHINE ON !!!!! We are having lots of fun things going on this week. Today the second grade is going to have a Readers Resturaunt. They are going to get to read to the fifth graders. Then they come back tonight and read to their families and serve them a spaghetti dinner.  After school we are having a STAR BURST!!!

  Wow!  I can't belive how fast the year has gone by.  At the end of every year, we all have fun activities such as Star burst,  end of the year programs,  Readers Resturant and much much more.  Pluse we just got back from a 3 day weekend!  How cool is that?!  Summer is great but I'm going to miss school. Until then keep working hard and  SHINE ON!!!

The end of the year!!

The whole school has been seeing their new teacher. We got to switch on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It was very fun! We played games. We made up nick names for everybody in the class! Mine was happy Hannah!  We played another game. We had to say two things that were true about our self and one lie about our self. we had to try to guess their lie! All in all I HAD FUN!!!!!!!!

Yesterday, May 19,2014, the whole school got to meet their new teachers.  Some classes got to watch movies while others played games and colored.  We also did math sheets.  My favorite thing about meeting my new teacher was that I played a "get to know you" game.  We had to make up an adjective  to describe our self.  Mine was gifted and talented Dakota!

2nd grade is finishing up unit 6 about the human body.  We have been learning about the main body parts.  For example, brain, small intestine, large intestine, stomach. Last, but not least, we learned about the liver.  Then we watched a brain pop video.  After that we  put a body part on our paper body.   Then we went to stations and we learned more about the human body.

2nd Grade- The Human Body



The whole second grade has been learning about the human body. So we switched classes on Monday and Tuesday! Two of the most important ways to stay healthy is exercise and eat really healthy! So on Monday we learned about exercise. In Mrs. Smithpeters classroom we danced for exercise! Then we went over to  Ms. Cherry's room and we did this thing where you do all kinds of different exercises! Then we rotated  over  to  Mrs. Hudgens' class where we jumped rope. We went to Mrs . Schuhknecht's class and did sit ups and pushups! Then on Tuesday we learned about healthy foods ! First we went to Mrs. Smithpeters class. We ate Kiwi it was delicious! Then we went to Ms. Cherrys' class. We ate Triscuits and Hummus. Then we went to Mrs. Hudgens' class we had Cranberry grape juice. It was yummy! Last we went to Mrs. Schuhknechts class! We ate Cauliflower and broccoli! Those days were awesome !

A school feildtrip to the Botanical gardens

Tuesday, May 6,2014 Shaw stars went to the Botanical Gardens.  The people were very entertaining.  Some of the 5th graders tought the younger kids. The first station I went to was how to have a healthy plate.  It was realy fun!  Then we went to another station and another and another and then we finally were at the last station. By then I was realy sweating!  But I guess I got pretty lucky because it  had water!  Then it was time to leave.  Pooy!  But it was the bomb!

Hello, Shaw writers! There's been a lot of letters coming and going. I wonder how much letters there are? Remember, tomorrow is the last day of writing and giving letters to your friends. So if I were you, I would write as many letters as I can. You know how exciting it is to get a letter cause I do. Its fun and awesome! But its not about the letter its about who you are and how good friends you are from your heart.

Yesterday Mrs. Smithpeter's class did an experiment on the human body! We  took crackers and smashed them up. Then it looked like dirt . Next, we dumped some water inside of it .Then it turned all mushy. This showed us how our body digests food!

 

The whole entire school has been making letters and mailing them off  to everybody in the school!First, you write it. Then you mail it. Last you wait for the person you wrote... to write back!  Thanks Third Grade for organizing this.

2nd grade has been trying to get $250 dollars .We are trying to buy a water buffalo for a needy family, or a tribe in Africa! So, if you have any money just laying around your house bring it and put in our piggy bank in the GALAXY!!!! Now be searching around your house for some spare money!!There is only a little time left!

Yesterday in literacy groups we all finished our book!  Now we have to make a commercial about are book. To help us out Mrs. Smithpeter's husband came and talked to us about how to make a commercial. There are a lot of steps to it. First you have to plan it out. Next you have to draw it out. Last you have to find the perfect place to shoot it!
