Student council

Hello reader from all around. Have you ever done student council. Its really helps you when someone is hurt or when someone really isn't being nice. So when that comes to your eye you need to stop what you are doing and help them because if you are in that that place when that was you.  Student Council will meet this Thursday at lunchtime in the library. That is all today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

G.O.T.R race in the snow

brr, it was freezing at the G.O.T.R race on Saturday November 21. It was snowing!!! To warm up we danced and wiggled. It was so fun but the only part I didn't like was walking because I wanted to run. But my favorite part was seeing my friend. It was fun.

G.O.T.R 5k

Hey all of you girls stuck in school doing nothing but work. You should try to be in G.O.T.R right now! Girls on the run is an after school activity. We learn lessons and then we RUN! It's the end of our season now. The 5k race starts at 8:00 in the morning on Saturday, Nov. 21st.  We need a buddy runner, you have to run with them. So do you like girls on the run?

G.O.T.R 5K

For some girls at Shaw you may know what G.O.T.R is, its Girls On The Run. The 5k race is at 7:00 ,well we have to get there at 7:00 in the morning, But the race is at 8:00 it is this Saturday, Nov. 21st, THIS SATURDAY. I'm kinda scared, kinda excited, and kinda sad because our season will be over.

3rd & 5th grade field trip

We went to the ACO. We saw Folk tales all around the world. The person who was telling us the story name was Bobby Norfolk. He is a author and tours around America telling kid stories. Bobby was really funny and made every story that he told funny because he explained it so well. The 5th and 3rd grade field trip was a really fun field trip.

5th grade G.T. Program

5th grade had an amazing performance today (11/6/14). Mrs. Little always does her best with helping her students act out a great show. The actors always give the audience a feeling that would go along with the play. My favorite out of the two was the first one. It reminded me of the ending of Romeo and Juliet. 

5th Grade: Mrs. Stark's Class-The 1st Nine Weeks!

Mrs. Starks class has two new ambassadors named Sam and Lizzie. We finished off the first nine weeks with a big writing prompt on Chief Joseph from the Nez Perce tribe of Indians. Two of the kids in Mrs.Starks class are running for student council vice president. Their names are Fowler and Nikki. We have been doing book talks for the first nine weeks on the books we have read. The first nine weeks in Mrs. Stark's class has been the most fun I've had in a long time!

Mrs. Stark's Class: The Great Depression

During this week Mrs. Stark's class has been learning about the Great Depression and World War II. We've also been learning about dictators in the war like Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. Also we've been studying about how the Great Depression affected America.  America actually didn't want to be in the war until Pearl Harbor happened.  Pearl Harbor took place in Hawaii.  After that men left to fight in the war and the women were in charge.  They worked in factories to make weapons.  After the war, woman got trusted a lot more.  Mrs. Stark's class is very excited about this study and we hope to find a bunch of more facts about it. 

Genre Challenge



This year 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades are having a fun genre challenge. We each have to read and take a test on 50 books! Different genres like horror, humor, and character are included. Every one of us is working very hard! After you read 25 books and have passed all of the tests, your picture will be placed in a car on the map in the hallway by the library. So be sure to look for your picture in a car! Later this year our genre challenge is having a special party for the finishers! But be quick! Time is running out! The challenge is over May, 2nd! In your spare time read, read, read!

Mrs. Farrell's Class: Planets

 



This week Mrs. Farrell's 5th grade class is researching all eight planets. We are put into groups of three, and expected to work together as Shaw Stars do. We will be researching for two days, Monday and Tuesday. Then Wednesday and Thursday we'll be working on our presentations. Friday will be the special day when we get to share our presentations to our class. Monday the 21st I will post videos including our presentations.  You'll want to be sure and check them out!

Mrs. Stark's Class Rocked the Test

 



Mrs. Stark's 5th grade class was prepared for the Benchmark.  During the year we worked very, very hard on math.  We did not just learn 5th grade math, but we did higher math that was most likely on 6th grade level too.  We've learned about how to subtract, add, multiply, and even how to divide fractions.  Our class has also learned how to measure shapes with a protractor.  Mrs. Stark has taught us a ton of things in Math this year. Also we have been working on writing, reading, and science. This year Science was new for benchmark for us 5th graders. We've  been studying about planets and the solar system. For writing and reading we have been learning about similes and metaphors from Clayton Scott.  This really helped us when we had to writing prompts for the Benchmark.  Reading was very easy for Mrs. Stark's class because we've done many Benchmark practices before the test.  All in all we have worked extremely hard during the year and no matter what our scores are we know we tried and in our mind we aced the test.

Mrs.Taylor's Class: Benchmark Fun

 



In the week of Benchmark Mrs. Taylor's class had super fun! Each day we had a special theme. On Monday we had "no brain freeze here!"  We watched Disney's Frozen and ate Sonic slushies! On Tuesday the theme was "give me s'more of that test!" We camped out with a good book and ate a s'mores. On Wednesday the theme was "give us your best game!" That day we wore our team shirt or a Shaw shirt. We also brought board games! On Thursday we had "we're not monkeying around with this test!" We read Summer Of The Monkeys by Wilson Rawls and ate a banana split. Thursday was the last day of testing! On Friday the theme was "finished with the test and flying high!" We had a choice of either a Coke float, root beer float, grape float, or an orange float. Then we flew our kites. All in all, we had a great time!

Mrs.Wiggins Class: #Planets are Cool Project



Who saw the blood moon this morning?

 

The blood moon is created when the sun, Earth, and moon are in perfect alignment.  Mrs. Wiggins' class has been researching planets for the past couple of days. We have also been researching stars and the asteroid belt. So far we have learned that the planets are separated in to two groups, the outer planets and the inner planets. The inner planets are mostly made out of rock and they all have atmospheres except Mercury. The outer planets are called the gas giants and all of them have a set of rings that go around them. In our class we have been split in to groups, each group is either researching a planet and its moons, the sun, the asteroid belt, or a star.  There is another blood moon scheduled to come on October 8th.
