Summer Reading Program: Ralph S. Mouse by Beverly Cleary


Book Introduction:
The world's smartest mouse is back...and he's going to school! When Ralph learns that his old friend Matt, the bellhop at the Mountain View Inn, is going to lost his job beacuse of mice in the hotel, Ralph gets the housekeeper's son to take him to school with him. Ralph the mouse causes quite a sensation in the classroom—and gets quite an education himself.

Interest Level: Grades 3-5

Genre: Adventure

Questions for Chapters 1-2:
1. Ralph has two prized possessions, his motorcycle and his crash helmet.  What is your most prized possession?  Tell about it and why it is important to you.
2. Do you think that Ralph is being selfish by not letting his relatives ride his motorcycle?  Why or why not?
3. Do you think there are other mice at Ryan's school?  Why or why not?

Questions for Chapters 3-4:
1. How do you think your teacher would react if you brought a mouse to school in your pocket?  Explain your answer.
2. Write a story to tell what happened the next morning when the kids in Room 4 came back to find their art projects eaten by Ralph.
3. Do you think it would be cheating for Ralph to look at or practice the maze before the mouse exhibit?  Why or why not?
4. How do you think Ralph will do running the maze?  Explain your answer.

Questions for Chapters 5-6:
1. Would you like to be able to have as good of a sense of smell as a mouse has?  Why or why not?
2. Do you think Ralph jumping to the top of the maze instead of running it correctly was cheating?  Why or why not?
3. How do you think Ryan feels about breaking Ralph's motorcycle?  Explain your answer.

Questions for Chapters 7-9:
1. Pretend you are in Ryan's class.  Write a letter to the editor about the article on the mouse exhibit.
2. Did you like the ending of the book?  Why or why not?

  2. 1.My teacher would go crazy if I brought a mouse to school.2.If Ralph ate my project I would be so mad.I would want to destroy him.3. I think it would be cheating if he looked at the maze because he would memorize the maze.4 I think Ralph will do fine running the maze.
